Lamar Jackson is back in the building, and the Baltimore Ravens’ first training camp under Jesse Minter is officially underway.
Quarterbacks reported to the Ravens facility Monday, giving Jackson and the rest of Baltimore’s quarterback room an early start before the team’s first full-squad practice Wednesday. The arrival of the two-time NFL MVP marks the beginning of one of the most important summers in recent franchise history.
Baltimore is entering a new era with Minter replacing John Harbaugh as head coach, but the expectations around the building have not changed. The Ravens still have Jackson leading the offense, Derrick Henry powering the running game and enough talent on both sides of the ball to remain one of the AFC’s top contenders.
That makes Jackson’s return more than a standard reporting-day note. He remains the center of everything Baltimore wants to accomplish offensively. His chemistry with new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, his timing with Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman, Mark Andrews and Baltimore’s young receivers, and his comfort behind a reworked offensive line will all be major storylines once practices begin.
The Ravens also have work to do behind Jackson. Tyler Huntley returned this offseason as an experienced backup, while Skylar Thompson and Joe Fagnano remain in the mix after Baltimore waived Diego Pavia to make room for veteran center Ethan Pocic on the 90-man roster. Whether the Ravens keep two quarterbacks or carry a third will be one of the roster questions to monitor throughout camp.
Still, the focus starts with No. 8.
Jackson’s health, command and continued growth under Doyle will help determine Baltimore’s offensive ceiling. With Henry in the backfield and Pocic joining a line that must replace Tyler Linderbaum at center, the Ravens have several moving pieces to sort through before Week 1.
Training camp will provide the first true look at how quickly those pieces can come together. For Minter, Wednesday’s first full-team practice will begin the daily evaluation of a roster built to contend immediately.
For the Ravens, the most important development came first.
