The Los Angeles Lakers have undergone as many changes as any team this offseason.

The team will no longer have LeBron James, as the legend is reportedly moving on. In response, the Lakers have gone a little wild, trading for Walker Kessler and signing Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Collin Sexton, and Kevon Looney.

However, the additions may not be done quite yet. It's been reported that the Lakers are interested in former top pick Jonathan Kuminga, and the former Warrior and Hawk would be an interesting addition for sure.

Now, we know what a possible Kuminga deal could look like.

Lakers want to offer Kuminga 2-year, $20 million deal

According to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers are "looking at" giving Kuminga a two-year deal worth $20 million. The Lakers would need to offload some salary or work out a sign-and-trade with the Hawks to make a deal like that work.

The Hawks declined Kuminga's $24.3 million option for 2026-27, so they would likely be fine with working out a trade instead of losing him for nothing. The Hawks have plenty of other wings to give minutes to, and they clearly don't want to invest in Kuminga.

In 16 games with the Hawks in 2025-26, the wing averaged 12.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while shooting 47% from the field and 34% from three. It was a solid season from the wing, but still far short of his original expectations.

Kuminga has the makeup to be an elite defender, but he never really has been. The Lakers have almost no perimeter defense currently on the roster, so the hope is that Kuminga can finally reach that potential.

ESPN's Anthony Slater recently reported that Kuminga already had a virtual meeting with the Lakers' Rob Pelinka and J.J. Redick. Apparently, the point of the meeting was to convince Kuminga that he could thrive next to Luka Doncic.

It's definitely an interesting fit. Los Angeles could be the perfect spot for Kuminga to finally reach his full potential, and it will provide him with another solid supporting cast.
