The Los Angeles Lakers are in the middle of a very critical stretch of games, and so far, they have done very well during that stretch. They have a five-game winning streak, which includes victories over the New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets. In their last nine games, which have yielded eight victories, they have posted the sixth-best defensive rating in the NBA while ranking second in offensive rating and 3-point shooting percentage.
They will now take off on a six-game road trip that begins with matchups against the Houston Rockets on Monday and Wednesday. The Lakers are in third place in the Western Conference with a 42-25 record, while Houston is in fourth place at 41-25.
For Monday's game, everyone other than backup big man Maxi Kleber is expected to be available for L.A. Kleber will miss another game due to a back strain.
For Houston, backup center Steven Adams and forward Jae-Sean Tate will not play. All-Star big man Alperen Sengun is questionable, and, of course, point guard Fred VanVleet has been out all season due to a torn ACL.
The Lakers previously lost to Houston by 23 points on Christmas Day, but they didn't have Austin Reaves for a good portion of that contest because of a calf strain. As long as Sengun plays, both teams will be close enough to full strength on Monday.
