Following LeBron James' shocking decision Tuesday to leave Los Angeles, it appears that the Lakers are no longer trying to retain his services.

Lakers president and governor Jeanie Buss released a statement Tuesday afternoon on behalf of the team that read, "LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history. We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers—including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances and the countless records he broke in purple and gold. We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off. He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family."

In eight seasons with Los Angeles, James was exceptional, averaging 25.9 points, 7.9 assists, 7.7 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.6 blocks. His title year with the team during the 2019-20 season was especially impressive, as he finished second in MVP voting, averaging 25.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals and a league-leading 10.2 assists.

Now on the move, James will either decide between retirement or playing a 24th NBA season for one of a handful of interested teams, which include the Golden State Warriors.
