Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.
During the Lakers' 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.
Jay Huff, a 7-foot-1 center, played four seasons for the University of Virginia, where he played a role in the Cavaliers winning the NCAA championship in 2019. The Lakers signed him to a two-way contract in October 2021 as an undrafted free agent after the Washington Wizards waived him.
Huff played mostly in the G League as a rookie and showed some promise as a shot-blocking, floor-stretching center. With the big-league Lakers, he appeared in four games that year and totaled four rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and no points in 20 minutes.
Los Angeles waived him in October 2022, and after bouncing around the league, he seems to have found a home this season with the Indiana Pacers. He's averaging 9.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 20.9 minutes a game this season, and he has appeared in all 73 of the Pacers' games.
