The NBA's trade deadline is Feb. 5, and it is gradually approaching. Time is ticking for teams across the league to make moves, and so far, with one or two exceptions, this trade season has been very quiet.

It is well known that the Los Angeles Lakers want and need at least one 3-and-D guard or wing in order to go from a playoff-caliber team to a championship-caliber one. They have won four of their last five games and hold a respectable 28-17 record, but for a team that boasts Luka Doncic, LeBron James and Austin Reaves, that simply isn't good enough.

According to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, the Lakers, along with a few other teams, have expressed interest in Jose Alvarado, a point guard who currently plays for the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Knicks, Lakers, Rockets, and Spurs are among the teams to register trade interest with the Pelicans on Jose Alvarado.

The Lakers don't really need another ball-handling guard right now. But Alvarado has a reputation for being a pesky defender, and he also possesses ample quickness, as well as a decent outside shooting stroke.

He's currently averaging 7.9 points, 3.2 assists and one steal in 21.9 minutes a game while shooting 36.3% from 3-point range this season. He has a player option for next season and will make a total of $4.5 million this season.
