Down 3-2 to the Boston Celtics? Trailing 3-1 to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals?

Overcoming the odds in those series looks like small potatoes compared to what LeBron James is facing against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Thunder host James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series. And even though Oklahoma City will be without All-Star Jalen Williams, the sportsbooks believe the Thunder are enormous favorites at home anyway.

Oklahoma City is a 15.5-point favorite against Los Angeles on Tuesday night. It makes James the biggest underdog in any of the 1,920 games he has played across his legendary 23-year career.

The Los Angeles Lakers are consensus 15.5-point underdogs in Game 1 tonight at the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Part of the reason for this betting line stems from the fact that Luka Doncic is still recovering from a hamstring strain that has ruled him out of Game 1.

Doncic, the NBA's regular season scoring champion, faces long odds to return before Game 3 or Game 4 of this series. While Austin Reaves made his return from an oblique injury as the Lakers eliminated the Houston Rockets in the first round, the markets aren't moved by Reaves' comeback -- nor by James' superb start to the playoffs.

The betting line offers plenty of respect to the Thunder, the defending NBA champions who boasted the league's best record for the second year running. But James will take it as a slight -- and as a chance to prove his greatness one more time.
