Lakers' Jonathan Kuminga plans rivaled by Cavs, Bucks, Hawks originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Jonathan Kuminga is a free agent, and he has plenty of interested parties.
The Los Angeles Lakers are apparently being rivaled by the Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
A return to the Atlanta Hawks is also possible, Stein added in his post on X:
The Lakers obviously face financial constraints but league sources say they continue to explore the feasibility of adding Jonathan Kuminga to fill a wing need.
Cleveland and Milwaukee have also expressed Kuminga interest and a return to Atlanta has not been ruled out. pic.twitter.com/at1Q99RgCb

Kuminga was previously a top-10 pick by the Golden State Warriors. They traded him with Buddy Hield before the 2026 NBA trade deadline to acquire Kristaps Porzingis from the Hawks.
Just as with the Warriors, Kuminga showed a positive scoring ability in Atlanta. He remains a bit limited in the other aspects of his game.
He had a team option with the Hawks, but it was for more than $20 million, so they declined it, which sent him to unrestricted free agency.

The Lakers have been quite active on the market already, and as Stein alludes, it's not clear how they'd exactly line the money up to get Kuminga.
But from a talent perspective, he'd be an intriguing add. Kuminga wouldn't have to do too much, but he could learn from the Lakers' talented playmakers and potentially grow his team for a high-profile franchise.
It'd certainly be quite the twist if the former Warriors' phenom ended up with the Lakers and broke out in Los Angeles. But it's at least possible at the moment.
