Despite calls for him to resign, Casey Wasserman, the entertainment executive and sports agent who chairs the committee that’s organizing the 2028 Summer Olympics in LA, will stay in his role.
Wasserman has come under fire for friendly and flirty emails he exchanged with Ghislaine Maxwell, the accomplice of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Despite that unsavory association, Reynold Hoover, the chief executive of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, told The Los Angeles Times that Wasserman “is the best person to help deliver a successful Summer Games to L.A.”
“I know the value that he brings to the organization and what we’re trying to do,” he told The Times. “We’re going to continue on. … Casey was here at the beginning of this whole project, and there’s nobody with the kind of business sense of the Olympics and how to put the partnerships together that you [need] to deliver on the Olympics. … Between him and I, we make a great team.”

Who Wants Wasserman to Resign His Position?
Local leaders like Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called for Wasserman to step down from the role.
Despite the LA28 Board sticking with Wasserman, Bass went on CNN and made clear she does not support what she called an “unfortunate” decision.
“The behavior of Maxwell, what they were involved in, is abhorrent … My opinion is he should step down, but that’s not the opinion of the board,” she told CNN’s Dana Bash on “The Lead.”
Why is LA28 Sticking With Wasserman?
When pressed on comments by Bass and others regarding Wasserman, Hoover cited a lack of pressure from advertisers as proof that the embattled chair should stay in his role.
“We’re going to announce another tier-one sponsorship in another week or so,” he said. “We still have sponsors coming. No sponsor has come to us and said that they don’t want to be associated with us or are concerned about the current controversy.”
Outside of the Olympics, Wasserman has faced repercussions due to his association with Epstein.
He’s selling his eponymous talent agency after prominent clients like Chappell Roan cut ties due to the Epstein fallout.
He also apologized to his employees, noting that his emails with Maxwell “took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light.”
