The Dodgers are giving Luka Doncic his own bobblehead night, turning a Lakers superstar into one of the more unusual baseball giveaways of the 2026 MLB season.
It is a strange crossover at first glance.
It makes a lot more sense when the ownership map is considered.
Dodgers announce Luka Doncic bobblehead night
The Dodgers schedule lists a Luka Dončić Bobblehead for August 21, 2026, when Los Angeles hosts the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium.
“The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially announced a promotional Luka Doncic bobblehead giveaway scheduled for their August 21 MLB matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Dodger Stadium.”
Cross-promotional giveaways are not unheard of, but this one stands out. Doncic is not a Dodgers player, not a former MLB figure, and not even a baseball-adjacent celebrity in the usual sense. He is the face of the Lakers’ next era.
That is the point. Mark Walter is the controlling owner of the Dodgers and completed his majority acquisition of the Lakers last year, placing two of Los Angeles’ biggest sports brands under the same ownership umbrella.

For Doncic, that matters. The Lakers are not just selling him on the arena, the jersey and the history. They are selling him on the full Los Angeles machine, where a Lakers star can be celebrated at Dodger Stadium before a Friday night crowd.
Lakers roster makeover pressure still surrounds Luka Doncic
The marketing is strong, but the roster still matters more. Doncic averaged 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in 64 games during the 2025-26 regular season, MVP-level production that made him the franchise centerpiece.
He is already under contract after signing a three-year, $165 million maximum extension with the Lakers in 2025, a deal that avoided 2026 free agency. The next challenge is making sure he wants this to be his long-term basketball home beyond the current window.
That is where pressure builds on Rob Pelinka and Walter. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported on June 18 that Doncic’s side had been promised a major summer reshuffle around him, with the Lakers needing a more balanced roster rather than simply relying on star power.
The needs are obvious. Los Angeles has to sort out LeBron James’ next deal, Austin Reaves’ future, defensive support around Doncic, and the kind of frontcourt balance that can survive the playoffs.
The bobblehead is a fun symbol of the new ownership era. The roster makeover is what will decide whether Doncic becomes a long-term Laker rather than just the city’s newest collectible.
