Quarterback Kyler Murray is no longer a member of the Arizona Cardinals. He is now employed by the Minnesota Vikings. He signed a one-year contract for the league minimum after he was cut by the Cardinals.

Now, he will get paid $36.8 million this year. That was fully guaranteed. The Vikings will only pay $1.3 million of that, while the Cardinals will pay the remaining $35.5 million.

The fit for Murray and the Vikings seems to be mutual.

According to SI.com's Albert Breer, Murray and his agent Eirk Burkhardt "had identified Minnesota as, far and away, his best option, with the plan being to prioritize winning, sign a one-year deal and then hope for a long-term landing spot, be it in his 2026 home or elsewhere, in 2027."

While he wanted to speak with other teams, things happened too fast, but that didn't seem to matter. Per Breer, Murray told Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell, "This is where I want to be.”

The Vikings, looking for competition for 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, wanted Murray, but not necessarily just for 2026.

Murray isn't being handed the starting job. He will have to beat McCarthy, but O'Connell has an eye on the future. Per Breer, O'Connell told Murray "that he was the one guy on the market that they could see as a potential longer-range answer, rather than a one-year Band-Aid."

If things go the way both Murray and O'Connell want, Murray could be in Minnesota for many years.
