Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray made his preseason debut with the Minnesota Vikings in a game against former Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo and the New York Giants on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Neither player saw much action as the Giants held a 10-3 halftime lead.
Murray, who was named the Vikings’ starter following a competition with J.J. McCarthy, played the first series and led Minnesota to a 3-0 lead before his afternoon was done at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
Skattebo was playing for the first time since suffering a right ankle dislocation and fibula fracture during Week 8 of his rookie season last year. He played during each of the Giants’ first two series and finished with four carries for 19 yards.
Murray went 2 for 3 for 10 yards during the Vikings’ game-opening 10-play, 54-yard drive that led to a field goal.
Skattebo, meanwhile, opened the Giants’ first series with a 5-yard run, followed with a 2-yard gain and then tight end Isaiah Likely caught a 5-yard pass from Jaxson Dart for a first down. The drive ended quickly after that following Tyrone Tracy Jr.’s run for no gain, an incomplete pass from Dart to Tracy and Dart getting sacked for a 7-yard loss.
Skattebo had two carries for 12 yards during New York’s second possession, which ended with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Dart to Malachi Fields. The key play was a short pass on third and 23 from backup QB Jameis Winston to running back Devin Singletary, who turned the catch into a 40-yard gain.
