The Los Angeles Dodgers absolutely handled the Washington Nationals in their first road game of the season, and it was quite special for a variety of reasons, including new signee Kyle Tucker hitting his first career home run.
Tucker, even on a team full of stars, is quite centrally in the spotlight after being the biggest prize in the offseason and signing for a record average annual value.
The Dodgers are the envy of baseball, and they are the central villains of the season for their spending, which becomes even clearer from the reaction to others signing Tucker.
As a result, Tucker has plenty of people rooting for him to fail with the Dodgers and end up a free-agent bust akin to Conforto, but he managed to take the first of many steps toward proving the doubters wrong.

Tucker went two for six at the plate against the Nationals on Friday, including two RBIs and a home run, bringing his average up to .241 and his OPS to .669.
He was one of many Dodgers who hit home runs and got their bat really going, with starting pitcher Miles Mikolas allowing 10 runs in less than five innings of work.
Kyle Tucker’s special moment
Tucker has already had some key moments for the boys in Dodger Blue, including a game-winning RBI knock during the opening series.
However, the Dodgers are known as a power-hungry, slugging outfit with Ohtani right at the center, and his home run was the first showing of his hitting power.
Tucker, however, is not changing much about his swing or how he plays and is focused on just getting normal at-bats as usual, not offering the issue now that he is a Dodger.
“I don’t know, I was just kind of swinging my way out of it, just trying to feel more comfortable in there, and try and not foul pitches that are over the middle of the plate and try and hit them so worked out well,” Tucker said in his post-game interview.
“I mean, I was just trying to get something over the plate and try and try and get a hit. I’ll just take the hits at this point.”
To make it all the more sweeter, the homer came when the Dodgers wore their blue uniforms for the first time on the road, something they have never done in franchise history.
Tucker is all for them returning.
“If it keeps getting knocks with it, I’m in.” he said.
