Kyle Busch‘s son won his first race following the famed NASCAR driver’s death.
On Friday, July 17, Brexton Busch, one of Kyle’s two children with wife Samantha Busch, earned what his mom described as “his first win since Kyle’s passing” — nearly two months after the two-time NASCAR champion died in May at age 41 after his family said he had been hospitalized with a “severe illness.”
Brexton, 11, competed in multiple divisions during an event at Oklahoma’s Port City Raceway dirt track, and he won in the restricted micro sprint class, per Motorsport.

Samantha, 40, documented her son’s big night in a series of Instagram Stories posts. In one, she wrote, “There was a lot of emotions to say the very least. Beyond proud of him, not just for winning but all that he’s navigating at a young age.”
Samantha added that she was “beyond shattered Kyle isn’t here to be a part of this,” but she was “beyond grateful for all the support and amazing people we have around us.”
In another, revealing that her 11-year-old competed in his dad’s car, the proud mom said over a video of the green No. 18 vehicle traversing the Oklahoma racetrack: “6 to 1 in outlaw heat driving Dad’s car.”

Samantha also shared a photo of micro sprint driver Frank Flud speaking with her child, as she expressed she was “grateful for all the drivers who have coached, encouraged and supported Brexton thru all this.”
Samantha — who also shared a 4-year-old daughter, Lennix, with the late NASCAR star — then revealed her son’s victory in the race, which came after he started back in 14th place.
“In restricted Brexton started p14, huge wreck lap one started in the back p12. Made his way thru the field,” she wrote in a play-by-play of the competition, adding, “And he ended up with the WIN!!!!”
Less than two weeks after his father’s death, Brexton returned to the racetrack at Charlotte Motor Speedway, continuing the racing journey his parents had long supported.
Brexton also appeared in his racing uniform in his father’s final Instagram post, a birthday tribute shared just days before the NASCAR star’s death.

“Happy Birthday Brexton!!! Your mom & I are so proud of who you’re turning out to be!” Kyle wrote in the post. “You’re the best kid on & off the track, you amaze us every day.”
He added: “Keep doing what you’re doing and there is no limit to what you’ll accomplish! Love you buddy!”
