Koulierakis gives first Roma interview: “Manolas told me all about this club.”
Konstantinos Koulierakis’s life has changed dramatically in just a few days.
From Wolfsburg to Roma, for a total of €18 million, a lightning-fast deal that brought the defender first to the capital for a medical and signing, then immediately to Wales for his first training session with his new teammates.
“I’m very happy to be here; the welcome has been wonderful. I haven’t had time to visit the city, but when my agent told me about this option, I immediately said yes. I had no hesitation whatsoever; I told my agent to do everything he could to bring me to such a big club in Italy,” the Greek told the club’s official microphones.
Regarding Gasperini and the job that awaits him in Italy, Koulierakis said: “I’ve spoken about the coach with Tsimikas and Mahele, my teammate at Wolfsburg. He’s one of the best coaches in Italy, and I’m very happy to be working with him. I don’t know any of my new teammates yet, but I can’t wait to meet them.”
“When I was young,” explains the new Giallorossi signing, “I followed and really liked Sergio Ramos. I’d say he was my idol, for his mentality, his strength, his character. Currently, I really like Laporte, because I think we have similar characteristics and we’re both left-footed. I really like his way of playing.”
Finally, the ‘strange’ story of the phone call with Manolas long before he became a Roma player: “I know Manolas, I spoke to him this summer, he explained the value of the team, when I spoke to him I told him it would be great to come and play in Rome, it seemed like just a conversation between us, but then Roma actually called me. I know Kostas was an important player for Roma, a key figure in that fantastic evening against Barcelona, I’m happy to have seen that match back then.”
