Ahead of a crucial Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks, the San Antonio Spurs, who are trailing 3-1, have made an addition to the injury report.
According to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, Spurs backup center Luke Kornet has been added to the injury report with an unspecified illness and is questionable for the contest.
Other than Kornet, it’s status quo for both teams, who have enjoyed a healthy NBA Finals going into Game 5.
Kornet, who is in his first season with the Spurs, played 21 minutes per contest during the regular season and averaged 6.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and one block per.

The veteran hasn’t played as much in the playoffs, though, with Luke Kornet averaging 13 minutes per game.
In the NBA Finals, Kornet has seen even less playing time with 7.8 minutes per, and he has only taken a single shot over four contests.
If the Spurs do need to turn to another big man off the bench should Kornet be ruled out, Kelly Olynyk or Mason Plumlee could get the nod.

The deck is stacked against the San Antonio Spurs, and in more ways than one.
Not only does San Antonio have to overcome a 3-1 deficit, but the team also has to make NBA history to do so.
That’s because no team in NBA Finals history has ever come back from a 2-0 deficit after losing the first two games of the series at home.

Of course, the Spurs dug themselves into a hole initially by losing the first two games of the series in San Antonio, and then their historic collapse in Game 4 put them down 3-1.
At this point, it’s hard to have any confidence in the Spurs after what we’ve seen out of them in this series and the New York Knicks capturing their first NBA title since 1973 seems inevitable.
