Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks stunned the NBA world after recording the biggest fourth-quarter comeback win in playoff history against the Cleveland Cavaliers in Tuesday’s Game 1. The Knicks were outplayed for most of the four quarters until Brunson flipped the switch down the stretch.
The Knicks trailed by 22 points with 7:52 left as the Cavaliers seemed a lock to steal homecourt advantage in a lopsided game. However, Brunson powered an incredible 44-11 run to close the game with a 115-104 comeback win in overtime.
Brunson scored 17 points in the fourth and overtime, while shooting 8 of 10. He also recorded four assists in that period as the Knicks went on to claim a historic win. Knicks fans were out of control after witnessing that inhumane performance from Brunson and the rest of the group to force an unrealistic comeback.
“BRUNSON BURNER IS MY MVP,” one fan wrote.
“THE GREATEST COMEBACK IN NBA PLAYOFF HISTORY,” another said.
“He’s the greatest I’ve ever witnessed. We are all witnesses to greatness,” one fan said about Brunson.
“that was the best playoff performance I’ve seen with my eyes,” another wrote.
“HOLLLYYYY CRAPP WHAT A INSANE WINN,” one fan added.
Magic Johnson makes huge claim about Jalen Brunson after Knicks largest comeback win in NBA playoffs
A lot has been said about Jalen Brunson’s viability as a leader on a championship team. Several basketball legends have questioned whether he’s capable enough to take the Knicks to the promised land as their best player. WNBA coach Becky Hammon infamously claimed Brunson is too small and players of that size haven’t moved the needle for teams.
However, after Brunson powered the Knicks to their largest comeback win in the NBA playoffs, Lakers legend Magic Johnson made a bold claim, suggesting he has what it takes to lead the Knicks to a title.
“Jalen Brunson’s performance tonight proved, once again, that he has the talent to lead the Knicks to a NBA Championship!”
The Knicks have been unbeatable since they went down 2-1 to the Hawks in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Jalen Brunson’s personal comeback after a slow start was integral to that.
Knicks had a 99.9% chance of losing in the fourth quarter
The Knicks overturned historic odds to protect homecourt in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. According to ESPN analytics, they had a 99.9% chance of losing just before their fourth-quarter run began.
Given that performance, it’s going to take a monumental effort from the Cavaliers to bounce back in the series. The Knicks may have battled some rust after a long break after they swept the 76ers in the conference semis.
But with the rhythm they had in the fourth and overtime, it’s hard to imagine that won’t translate to Game 2, especially with the crowd support.
