The New York Knicks and head coach Tom Thibodeau have an incredibly difficult series coming up against the Boston Celtics. In order to beat the defending champions, the Knicks will need everyone to step up and play to their best ability.
One key player for New York throughout the series will be Mikal Bridges.
Bridges will be asked with defending Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown during the series. Those two players are among the best scorers in the NBA. He will also need to contribute on the offensive end of the court.
Ahead of the series, Thibodeau spoke out and sent a message about his talented wing.
"He's got a great demeanor," he said. "For anyone who gets traded or free agency, there's an adjustment period and it takes some time. He's confident in his ability."
During the offseason, Bridges was acquired by the Knicks in a major trade with the Brooklyn Nets. He has played well, although there have been some consistency issues throughout his first season in New York.

In the 82-game full season Bridges played for the Knicks, he averaged 17.6 points per game to go along with 3.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.9 steals. He also shot 50% from the floor and 35.4% from 3-point range.
He played well during the first-round series against the Detroit Pistons, scoring 16.2 points per game. Bridges also chipped in five rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.2 blocks.
Should the 28-year-old wing be able to step up and average around 17 points per game while playing elite perimeter defense, he'll give New York a much better chance of pulling off the upset over the Celtics.
