Following a promising 2026 NBA Summer League performance, the Sacramento Kings are turning their attention to the preseason, where the younger members of the team should have an opportunity to play alongside veterans like Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine.
On Monday afternoon, the Kings released an official press release depicting the preseason schedule, while also announcing the broadcasting crew.
Mark Jones, who is beloved in Sac Town, returns as play-by-play announcer, while Kayte Christensen returns as game analyst, and the duo of Morgan Ragan and Deuce Mason will host the team's pregame and postgame coverage.
"I can't express enough how much this means to me," Mason wrote via X. "I grew up in Sacramento rooting for this team and always dreamed of being part of this broadcast... I couldn't be more excited!"
The crew will have it's first taste of preseason action on October 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
This matchup marks the first of a home-and-home series with Los Angeles, with Sacramento hosting the first affair.
The Lakers will have their turn to play host just three days later, on October 8.
While most of the marquee players for both teams will likely be limited, it will be good to see how players like Darius Acuff Jr. and Emanuel Sharp fair against an offensive duo like Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves.
But, the Kings have had struggles with their in-state rivals as of late, winning just one of their last eight matchups with the Lakers dating back to 2024.
Following this two-game stretch, Sacramento will remain in-state to take on the Golden State Warriors at Chase Center.
Golden State fronted two teams during the California Classic and Summer League, with one squad winning the championship.
Rookie Kings forward Alex Karaban will face off with the reigning Summer League MVP Yaxel Lendeborg, marking the first matchup between the two since last year's National Championship.
The Kings will then return home for a showdown against the Portland Trail Blazers before traveling to take on the San Antonio Spurs.
Similar to the Lakers, the Trail Blazers' dynamic perimeter players will be a nice test for Sacramento's young core.
The Spurs, on the other hand, continue to look like they are set for years to come.
But, second-year big man Maxime Raynaud has found success against his fellow frenchman Victor Wembanyama in the past.
One of Raynaud's top performances of last season came in late March, recording a career-high 32 points, adding nine rebounds and knocking down two 3-pointers against Wembanyama and the Spurs.
Later in the month, Raynaud led the Kings to 126-122 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, dropping a 22-and-10 double-double and making a bold claim that puts him alongside two of the top players in the world.
"The Spurs have Wembanyama, Denver has [Nikola] Jokic, and the Kings have me," Raynaud said following the win.
While preseason results can be deceiving, it is always good to get players acclimated to a normal NBA game's speed, and should be promising for Acuff and the other rookies.
