The Los Angeles Kings fell short of winning a playoff series once again, falling to the Edmonton Oilers for the fourth year in a row. The rivalry between these two is real, but on the ice, Edmonton has owned Los Angeles.

This year felt even more like a blow to the Kings since they were up 2-0 in the series early on. The Oilers then won four straight games to eliminate the Kings, sending them to another bitter offseason.

Due to this outcome, the Kings organization knew that a change needed to be made. Los Angeles and vice president/general manager Rob Blake have now mutually agreed to part ways.

President Luc Robitaille released a statement on the matter.

“On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank Rob for his dedication to the L.A. Kings and the passion he brought to his role,” Robitaille said. “Reaching this understanding wasn’t easy, and I appreciate Rob’s partnership in always working toward what is best for the Kings.

“Rob deserves a great deal of credit and respect for elevating us to where we are today. He has been an important part of the Kings and will always be appreciated for what he has meant to this franchise.”
