Formula 1 competed in Belgium, and it was a thrilling event. Kimi Antonelli started on the pole; however, a timely virtual safety car allowed Charles Leclerc to take the lead. Antonelli was on the charge to pass Leclerc in the final laps, but could the Mercedes driver get the job done in Belgium?

Antonelli and the No. 12 team for Mercedes won the Belgian Grand Prix, earning their sixth victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season. With under 10 laps to go, Antonelli was able to pass Leclerc, pulling away beyond the one-second detection range. It was a very impressive performance.

George Russell didn't finish the race, allowing Antonelli to extend his championship lead to 45 points over Lewis Hamilton. The No. 12 team has been amazing in 2026, and Sunday's performance is another indication of why Antonelli should be considered the heavy championship favorite.
