Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Kiké Hernandez provided a timeline for his return to the Dodgers, saying he wants to return from the injured list May 24.

Hernandez underwent offseason surgery on his elbow, and revealed he would miss the World Baseball Classic as well as the first couple of months of the regular season afterwards.

“My people of Puerto Rico; with pain in my soul I have to let you know that I will not be able to fulfill my dream of playing the clasico in my land,” Hernandez wrote in Spanish on his Instagram.

“Yesterday Friday November 14th, I had to repair my elbow extension muscle as I suffered a tear in May, and continuing to play with the urge to repeat as World Series Champion caused it to break the bone. Rehab won’t allow me to be ready in time to put on my uniform with Puerto Rico on my chest.

“I hope they understand. I LOVE THEM!”

Despite not being able to play, Hernandez still plans to go to Puerto Rico to support his Puerto Rican teammates during the World Baseball Classic.

The Dodgers signed Hernandez to another one-year contract worth $5 million in February, and the team has already placed him on the 60-day injured list. They’ll hope the fan favorite can make a quick return to the team as they chase the franchise’s first three-peat.
