Dodgers utility man Kiké Hernández returned to the injured list after manager Dave Roberts revealed before Wednesday’s game that an MRI exam revealed a “significant tear” in Hernández’s left oblique.
He could miss around six to eight weeks, but recovery timelines for oblique strains vary, depending on how long it takes the player to become symptom-free.
Hernández said he initially tweaked his oblique before his season debut, during batting practice Monday.
“I was pretty embarrassed about it,” Hernández said after Tuesday’s game. “I thought it was just weird tightness. Never done an oblique before. So I didn’t really know what I was feeling. Came in today, wasn’t feeling great. I got treatment, but I thought I could play. … Compared to some of the things I’ve played through in the past, it was nothing.

“And, yeah, it was a little more than nothing.”
Hernández’s went two for two Tuesday, including a third-inning homer, but he said he “felt awful” on the home-run swing.
Alex Freeland, who was called up to take Hernández’s spot on the roster, started at second base Wednesday and Max Muncy returned to the starting lineup at third behind Shohei Ohtani, who started the game on the mound and was the team’s designated hitter.
