Some key players returned from injury for the Green Bay Packers’ practice on Tuesday. Starting wide receivers Matthew Golden (toe) and Jayden Reed (foot) and backup tight end Josh Whyle (neck) all participated after missing Sunday's and Monday’s practices.
Additionally, Carrington Valentine, who’s competing to be one of the team’s starting cornerbacks this season, returned to work with the rehab group after missing time due to a hamstring injury.
The Packers won’t practice Wednesday to travel for their preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday.
On Monday, LaFleur said that anybody who is healthy should be prepared to take the field against the Steelers. Whether that applies to players who just recently returned from injury is unclear.
Right now, the plan is for Jordan Love to play in the preseason opener, which would give him a chance to get some game reps in with Golden and Reed, who are both expected to be prominent pieces for Green Bay’s offense in 2026.
In last year’s preseason opener, the offensive starters played 12 snaps while the defensive starters played 10 snaps. NFL teams are not required to release an official injury report prior to game time for the preseason, so we will have to wait and see if Golden, Reed, and Whyle actually suit up.
