Wanda Durant set her son’s past court battles aside today to deliver a heartfelt tribute to Russell Westbrook as he steps away from the game.

After 18 seasons, Russell Westbrook officially called it a career, stepping away on his own terms as the NBA’s undisputed triple-double king with 209.

A nine-time All-Star and 2017 MVP who averaged a triple-double across four different seasons, he leaves as one of the most explosive point guards in history.

Last season in Sacramento, he proved he still had plenty left in the tank, averaging 15.2 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.4 rebounds. And with limited role offers from Sacramento and Washington, Westbrook chose to walk away rather than take a backseat.

What started as an unstoppable partnership in Oklahoma City turned into the NBA’s ultimate soap opera when Kevin Durant left for Golden State in 2016.

Fueled by cold shoulder silent treatment, pettiness, and fiery head-to-head trash talk, their beef saw them go from former brothers into rivals.

But Durant’s mom, Wanda, has put any kind of rivalry to one side in order to wish Russell Westbrook well on his Instagram account.

Wanda Durant always maintained a warm, maternal bond with Russell Westbrook, regularly dismissing the media-driven rivalry with her son as overhyped “just basketball”.

Even during the peak feud years, Mama Durant publicly supported Russ, embracing him courtside and showing that her affection for him.
