A dream start to the Kentucky Wildcats softball team's 2026 season has turned into a nightmare. After winning game one of their series against Auburn, the Cats were 19-4, and feeling good. Since then, they have gone 0-5, and were dominated in all three games against the Florida Gators over the weekend.

Florida took game one on Friday 10-2. Carly Sleeman and Peyton Plotts drove in runs, but the Gators offense exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to pull ahead for good. It would only get worse from there.

On Saturday, Kentucky managed just two hits in a 9-0 loss. The game was shortened to five innings because of the run rule, and Florida scored in each one of the five innings. Even Hailey Nutter couldn't slow down their offense.

Sunday ended in another run rule-shortened 9-0 loss for Kentucky. The Gators scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back.

For the series, Kentucky was outscored 28-2, and Florida had 32 hits to just 9 for the Wildcats. It was a tough weekend that leaves the Cats with a 19-9 overall record. They're 1-5 in SEC play, and will face Texas A&M next weekend, where they will try to rebound.
