The Kentucky Wildcats baseball team started the season like one of the nation's best teams. They were 18-2 after sweeping the Alabama Crimson Tide to open SEC play. Since then, though, things have hit a snag, and they have now dropped three straight series after falling to Missouri on Sunday, 5-2.
Kentucky got out to a solid start, and even led 2-1 after the third inning. In the fifth, however, the Tigers exploded for four runs to take the lead. Nobody would score the rest of the way, and the lead would hold up.
The Wildcats managed just six hits and two runs on the day. A Luke Lawrence homerun accounted for one RBI. Scott Campbell Jr. drove in Kentucky's other run with his only hit. Star shortstop Tyler Bell also added a hit.
Ben Cleaver got the start for the Cats, and suffered his second loss of the year. He went 4.2 innings, giving up four runs. The bullpen pitched well, giving up just one run over the last 4.1 innings.
Kentucky will play a big mid-week matchup against rival Louisville on Tuesday. Then, it's back to SEC play as they take on the Auburn Tigers for a three-game set.
