Robinson enjoys visit with Cards

Marcus Robinson's free agency odyssey began in Arizona this week. He would have liked for it to have ended here, too.

Robinson, a receiver cut by Chicago last week, visited the Cardinals on Monday and Tuesday and was ready to sign a contract. The Cardinals, however, weren't prepared to make a decision that quickly, and Robinson was expected to catch a flight to Oakland for a visit today.

"It's a good opportunity here," Robinson said. "With the receivers that left here, there is a void. I think I can be a piece of the puzzle here. I would love to be a part of it."

In addition to Oakland, Robinson plans to visit San Francisco, Detroit and Baltimore.

There are concerns about Robinson's health, however. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament his left knee in 2001 and had a back injury in 2000 and underwent surgery in the summer of 2001.

The Cardinals were awaiting results of Robinson's physical examination.

"I've been putting forth a lot of effort into getting back in shape and getting back to the strength I was in 1999," he said.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Robinson led the Bears that season in receiving yardage (1,400) and had nine touchdowns and 84 receptions.

Robinson, 28, knows his history of injuries means teams will be reluctant to offer him a multiyear deal.

"It will definitely be a one-year deal, prove yourself and you go from there," he said. "That's the only thing you're looking for, that opportunity. I'm definitely willing to work for a job."
