The Big 12 Conference has star power in its coaching ranks, what with Colorado head man Coach Prime Deion Sanders and his media circus in Boulder.
But even Coach Prime is not the No. 1 coach in the Big 12. The top coach in the conference may surprise some fans, then again maybe not.
In rankings put out by USA TODAY Sports, the Big 12’s top coach is Kenny Dillingham of Arizona State.
Dillingham returned to his alma mater and coached the Sun Devils to the best turnaround in school history a season ago. From three wins in 2023 to 11 victories last season, a difference of +8 in the win column.
18 of those starters and contributors from last season are back again with an eye on some unfinished business, winning a national title.

When it comes to college offenses, Dillingham is one of the best in the game. He first learned how to coach and coordinate an offense at age 21 at Chaparral High School, which went on to field the top offense in the state.
He then cut his teeth with the Sun Devils out of college, learning and running offenses at the collegiate level. Dillingham’s suitcases have stickers from coaching stops in the SEC, the ACC and the PAC-12.
Throughout his career, Dillingham’s offenses consistently ranked among the best nationally in yards per game and scoring.
Dillingham is a culture guy, and what he is building in Tempe is something special. That is why he welcomes back both of his coordinators and so many starters in 2025. Dillingham being ranked as the No. 1 coach in the Big 12 should not be a surprise to anyone. He certainly earned it.
