Katherine Legge was going for history on Sunday. She was aiming to be the first woman to complete “The Double,” which is racing the full Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.
Legge wrecked on lap 18 of the Indianapolis 500. She will miss the remainder of the race, but is now expected to travel to Charlotte, North Carolina, to race in the Coca-Cola 600 later this afternoon.
Ryan Hunter-Rey spun coming out of a turn, and while Legge avoided him, the maneuver took her across the track and into the wall.
The damage took her car out of the race. Now, Legge will make the trek from Indianapolis to Charlotte to compete in the Coca-Cola 600. It is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. ET, and Legge will start 37th after qualifying was rained out Saturday.
