A series finale was contested Sunday between No. 1 Tennessee (27-1, 5-1 SEC) and No. 12 Mississippi State (27-4, 1-2 SEC). Rankings reflect the Week 5 NFCA/GoRout Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Tennessee won Sunday’s series finale, 4-1, at Nusz Park in Starkville, Mississippi.

Senior pitcher Karlyn Pickens returned for Tennessee, making her first appearance since March 3 against Belmont. She left the Tennessee-Belmont contest after 1.1 innings due to shoulder discomfort.

On Sunday at Mississippi State, the 6-foot-1, left-handed pitcher recorded six strikeouts and 111 pitches (65 strikes) against 25 batters in seven innings. She allowed one hit (one home run), one run (one earned) and four walks.

Pickens recorded her 700th career strikeout in the contest.

Taelyn Holley scored on a wild pitch for the Lady Vols in the third inning. Emma Clarke also hit a solo home run for the Lady Vols in the fourth inning. Ella Dodge hit a two-run single in the seventh inning for Tennessee's final runs.

Gabby Schaeffer hit a solo home run for Mississippi State off Pickens in the third inning.

4,818 were in attendance for the three-game series. The Lady Vols won Game 1, 3-1, in nine innings, while suffering their first loss of the season, 1-0, in Game 2.

Tennessee will next play Friday at Florida for a three-game series.
