MANHATTAN — Kansas State basketball will be without its best player when it takes the floor on Tuesday, March 3, at Bramlage Coliseum against West Virginia.

PJ Haggerty, the nation's third-leading scorer, was a surprise scratch on the Kansas State availability report released 90 minutes before its 7 p.m. CT game. He was not listed on the team's initial availability report that was released on March 2.

Kansas State said in a release that Haggerty sustained an injury in practice in recent days. The school said he's day-to-day ahead of Saturday's matchup at Kansas.

Haggerty, the Wildcats' starting point guard, is second in the Big 12 in scoring, averaging 23.3 points per game.

This is the first game Haggerty will miss for Kansas State this season. The Wildcats will also be without Dorin Buca, who was listed as questionable on Monday night, while Abdi Bashir Jr. and Mobi Ikegwuruka remain sidelined.

Kansas State has at least two more games remaining after Tuesday's game against the Mountaineers. The Wildcats travel to Kansas on March 7 before playing in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City on March 10.
