First Coast residents Kaitlyn Schroeder and Nancy Cox shot 3-over 75 on Aug. 4 in the first round of stroke play in the U.S. Women's Amateur, at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.

Schroeder, a senior at the University of North Florida and Cox, a junior at Oklahoma, are tied for 65th and will begin the second round on Aug. 5 on the bubble to make match play. The top 64 players will advance.

Schroeder had birdies at Nos. 1 and 7, and bogeyed three holes in between. She then made 10 pars in a row before closing with a bogey at the par-4 18th hole.

Cox was 1-over at the turn and bogeyed Nos. 10 and 16.

Aphrodite Deng, a native of Canada who has established a practice base at the Glen Kernan Country Club in Jacksonville, is tied for ninth after posting a 1-under 71.
