The Astros wrap up the series against the Guardians today at Daikin Park. Kai-Wei Teng takes the mound against Slade Cecconi. The Astros are looking to take the series after splitting the first two games. One win representing a bounce back and proof they are a competitive team and the other a blow out. After coming off a serious loss yesterday the pitching and offense need to be clicking to secure the series.

Teng's Season

Teng is currently 3-6 with a 4.31 ERA and 58 strikeouts, per MLB. He has worked as both a starter and reliever this season, a sign of how much the rotation has been shuffled. He has had some good outings mixed in with rough ones, like much of their pitching staff the consistency has not been there.

The Opposition

Slade Cecconi takes the mound for Cleveland. He is 3-5 with a 4.60 ERA and 65 strikeouts, per MLB. Cleveland is a legitimate contender at 40-36, sitting atop the AL Central. This is not an easy matchup for either side based on the numbers, but if Teng can turn it on this is a winnable series.

The Astros took game one Friday behind Imai's bounce back outing, then dropped Saturday's game when Arrighetti ran into trouble with the long ball. A win today would give the Astros the series against one of the better teams in baseball, which would be a huge win based on how rough the start of the season was for Houston. A series win here would be a real signal that this team can hang with the top of the league, and they really have turned a corner.

The Astros need length from Teng today, something that has been hit or miss for him all season. A series win against Cleveland would be a big confidence boost heading into the next stretch of the season.
