TOPEKA (KSNT) – Ty Smolinski becomes the first Big 12 player to be named the league’s most valuable player.
The K-State junior infielder spent the summer playing for the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod Baseball League, which is the top collegiate summer league in the nation.
Smolinski helped the Mariners win the 2026 CCBL Championship. During the regular season, the junior hit .313 with 42 hits, 27 runs scored, six home runs, nine doubles and 10 stolen bases in 37 games played for the Mariners.
Kansas men’s basketball loses 2027 commit
This past season with the Wildcats, Smolinski finished third on the team with a .339 batting average. He also had a team-leading 18 doubles, one triple, and nine home runs.
