The New York Mets lost 4-2 to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday, but the way they scored could have long-term ramifications. Superstar slugger Juan Soto hit his first two homers at Citi Field since signing a record 15-year, $765 million contract over the offseason.
The four-time All-Star hadn't homered since April 15th, and came into the game hitting just .241. However, her smashed a 391-foot shot to left center in the sixth inning and a 399-foot homer to left center in the eighth, both of them solo.
Soto finished 2-for-3 with a walk on a day where New York had just five hits in total. The five-time Sliver Slugger was asked after the game if his big performance took any pressure off of him, via SNY.

"What pressure? I don't have any pressure," he said. "[Head coach Carlos] Mendoza's made me feel comfortable to go out there and play. I don't have any pressure at all. It was just two homers that weren't enough to get the win, so whatever."
New York never led at any point in the game, as it had four less hits than Arizona. It also committed two errors, while the Diamondbacks were unblemished defensively.
Soto is now slashing .252/.379/.443 with five homers and 14 RBI on the season.
Although the Mets (21-11) lost the series to Arizona, they're still 3.5 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for first place in the NL East. However, they're a half-game behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in baseball.
