The New York Mets and New York Yankees split the first two games of their Subway Series, with the rubber match being played on Sunday. Close throughout, the two teams were tied 2-2 entering the eighth inning when a Pete Alonso throwing error gave the Yankees a one-run lead. They went on to score five more times, winning 8-2.

In the top-half of the eighth, Mets superstar and former Yankees outfielder Juan Soto led off with a groundout. The 92.7 MPH roller was fielded on a sliding backhand by second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who threw from his knees to get the out.

Soto, who was caught in-between with a half-swing, did not hustle to first base.

This decision sparked intense backlash from fans who believe Soto had a chance at an infield single had he ran hard out of the box.

"Selfish behavior," one stated.

"In the old days he’d get benched tomorrow for that," said another.

"Pathetic," added one. "It’s one thing to be in a slump, but dogging it down the line is bad. You’re paid far too much to be pulling this [expletive]."

"he has no heart," said another.

The backlash continued pouring in from fans, as the Mets went on to lose the game, with Soto finishing 0-for-4.

"At least act like you wanna play the game of baseball if Soto is hustling out of the box, there’s a play at first base!?" another exclaimed. "Things like that infuriate me, man."

"765 million for a guy who doesnt want to play here," added another.

"No excuses this was beyond embarrassing," said another.

"I’m all set with this guy," one claimed. "He’s a pure distraction. Bench him until he proves he’s a team player."
