Yep. Anything above .334 keeps the opposition honest. That's the equivalent of hitting .500 from the two.

The main thing I see is that a lot of the time instead of bringing the ball straight up close to his body he will extend the ball out in front of him and that causes him to have to bring the ball too far back towards his head before going forward again for the release. To me, Josh has only one real problem. He hesitates with the ball at the top of his jump and then releases the ball slightly late. If he eliminated that slight hesitation and let the ball release with its continued momentum he would be a lot more consistent.

I'm no expert even though outside shooting was my main strength when I played (not professionally), but it's easy to see that it is not smooth and fluid like Booker and Troy. He has a sort of fling at the end. It's a thing of beauty compared to what Marion threw up there.

Kawhi's before shot is much worse. His follow through goes down instead of toward the rim. Kawhi shot sort of a two-handed fling shot in college. JJ has a much easier transition.

We are watching different players. Kawai’s shot isn’t good in college, but it’s still a fluid shot whereas Jackson’s shot is not only shot put style, there’s a hitch in it as well.

Which I think is caused by him having the ball to far in front. That causes him to have a hard time consistently timing his release. Also agree about the fling motion that was mentioned. That part is most evident on his free throws. When he has an extended release on his free throws they tend to go in, but a decent amount of time he kind of flings it with a lot of wrist action.

Kawhi’s college shot is a two-handed fling from above the head. Are my eyes deceiving me or something? There is nothing fluid about it.

This an interesting conversation. Lots of different opinions on what a good jump shot form should be. I had a hunch this was the case.

Jackson has been ok, he's been a lot better since 2018, but that's one of the things I've noticed that was talked up regarding him before the draft. Does anyone else recall talk of Jackson's playmaking and ball handling skills?

I believe he averaged 4 assist/game in college. But yeah I recall that. He’s had some nifty passes during games. He sees the Court well. I think he just needs time to continue to find his game. I think we’ll the distributing evolve as his confidence grows.

He is a willing passer, but he can't dribble the ball, and he jumps without knowing where to pass the ball way too much. I had Bledsoe flashbacks the game before last, I think. He did that two times within a minute. I am hoping the game slows down for him and that he gets at least somewhat competent at dribbling.

I actually think he dribbles fine, he just goes charging into the lane with no plan far too often... and jumping while that plan is still not formed. I'm really not worried about him, there might be some guys taken after him that pan out better, but I think Jackson's floor is a slashing, 3 and D guy with some mediocre playmaking skills.

Young guys scare me when they go long stretches where you can't even tell they're on the court (IE, Len very often, Bender often, Chriss sometimes, Booker never)... that is a rare case with Jackson.

Yeah, I think his ball handling is actually pretty good and will continue to improve as the game slows down for him and he gets more proficient.

Josh has been contributing more to the T column than the W column, but I liked his energy and aggressiveness. Now that he's gotten more under control he's gradually becoming a positive factor

Jackson has been playing really well as of late, unfortunately that hasn't helped the Suns in the W/L department. Scott Bordow wrote an article about his play through January.

Jackson is averaging 14.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2 assists per game while shooting 48.3% from the field and 35.5% from 3. If he can keep that up he should make it on the All-Rookie 1st team but he'll probably end up on the 2nd team because of how the Suns have played as a team. He hasn't helped them improve much, if at all, in any areas this year compared to over rookies like Tatum, Simmons, and Mitchell all starting and helping their teams quite a bit.
