Jorge Sanz Announces Gonzaga Departure for North Carolina

Director of basketball operations and assistant coach Jorge Sanz is leaving the Gonzaga Bulldogs program to join first-year coach Michael Malone’s staff with the North Carolina Tar Heels, which was first reported by House of Krause. The Spaniard and international recruiter has been with the Zags since 2018.

Along with helping facilitate non-conference scheduling and utilizing advanced analytics, Jorge Sanz has developed the likes of Brandon Clarke, Rui Hachimura, Drew Timme, Corey Kispert, Andrew Nembhard, Anton Watson, Jalen Suggs, Chet Holmgren, and many others into NBA talents over his eight-year tenure.

This leaves an opening on coach Mark Few’s bench for the 2026-27 season. Will Sanz’s replacement be found internally, possibly with the promotion of general manager Kurt Bambauer?
