Jordan Stolz, the U.S. speed skating phenom from Kewaskum, goes for his second Olympic gold medal Saturday, Feb. 14, in the 500-meter race at Milan, Italy.
Stolz, who won the his first gold medal in the 1,000-meter race Feb. 11, is in line to win as many as four gold medals at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Olympics.
It'd be the most speed skating gold medals at one Olympics since Wisconsin native Eric Heiden won five gold medals in the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics.
Stolz is also planning to skate in the 1,500-meter and Mass Start races later in the Olympics.
Here's what to know about the 500-meter race, how to watch it and what's ahead for Stolz:
Stolz will compete between 10 and 10:55 a.m. Central time Saturday, Feb. 14.
All events are available live on Peacock or NBCOlympics.com, though the 500 meters is also on the schedule to appear on NBC (WTMJ Channel 4 in the Milwaukee area).
NBC's highlights show, which is certain to include Stolz's race, starts at 7 p.m. Central.
Yes, he's No. 1 in the International Skating Union standings in the event, and it's not particularly close, but he's not as overwhelmingly dominant in this race as the 1,000 meters, which he won Feb. 11.
Stolz took second at a pair of World Cup races in Germany on Jan. 25 and tied for second Nov. 22 in Calgary, and he took fourth Nov. 16 in Salt Lake City. He also won four World Cup races in that same late-2025 stretch.
The world-record time in the event is 33.61 seconds, set in Salt Lake City by Pavel Kulizhnikov of Russia in 2019. The Olympic record is 34.32, set by Gao Tingyu of China in Beijing in 2022.
Stolz's best race came in 2024 when he posted 33.69, less than a tenth of a second from the world record and more than a half-second better than the Olympic record. He holds five track records in the distance around the world, including the Pettit National Ice Center in Milwaukee.
Stolz competed in the event in Beijing, as well, taking 13th.
His biggest competition in the event: Netherlands 1,000-meter silver medalist Jenning De Boo and Poland's Damian Żurek, who defeated Stolz in the 500 in Germany and broke Stolz's two-year-old track record.

Stolz will compete between 9:30 and 11:05 a.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 19, in the 1,500 meters. He'll again be favored to win gold.
On Saturday, Feb. 21, we'll have the men's Mass Start, running somewhere between 8 to 10:50 a.m. It's the only race where everyone starts together, covering 16 laps of the track (6,400 meters).
