Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau are both heavily fancied to win The Masters this year.

DeChambeau is in better shape to win The Masters than Spieth, but the 2015 champion can never be ruled out at Augusta National.

The LIV Golf player has won the last two events he has played in, while the PGA Tour star is without a victory since April 2022.

However, Augusta National always seems to bring the best out of Jordan Spieth, and he will be relishing the chance to contend once again at The Masters this year.

On paper, Bryson DeChambeau has the perfect skillset to win The Masters. He just needs to tighten up his spin control on his wedges if he is to get over the line and finally acquire a green jacket.

Butch Harmon has tipped DeChambeau to win The Masters this year and it would be a surprise if he didn’t at least contend.

However, Brandel Chamblee believes there is one specific reason why the 32-year-old American could struggle at Augusta.

Brandel Chamblee comments on Bryson DeChambeau’s Masters hopes

Spieth has already highlighted how difficult Augusta National will play this week.

Due to the firm and fast conditions, those who hit the ball high with plenty of spin should perform well.

DeChambeau is definitely one of those players, but he still doesn’t have the game to win The Masters according to Chamblee.

Chamblee responded when asked whether he believes DeChambeau is close to finally figuring out how to win at Augusta National.

No, I don’t, Chamblee said.

I still don’t think the course is a great fit for him. Of course, he’s a phenomenal player, so he’s certainly capable of playing some really good golf there. It’s just not a great fit for him.

I referenced this last year, but if you go back 25 years, the winners, there’s 1,800 holes they would have played en route to winning the Masters.

Collectively, they’ve made six double bogeys in 1,800 holes. That’s .003 percent of the time they’ve made mistakes. He makes almost two and a half on average every time he plays the Masters.

His big miss there, which is fine the way they set up US Open golf courses these days, gets him in trouble at Augusta National. There are some places there you just can’t miss it big. His in-to-out move is not ideal for a lot of the hanging lies or the hook lies there that you get. He gets some pretty big surprises in that regard.

Jordan Spieth responds to Chamblee’s DeChambeau Masters claim

Spieth was asked whether he believes the players who can hit slight cut shots from hook lies will have an advantage at Augusta National this week.

Yeah. I don’t even know if you have more hook than ball under your feet. I guess probably, Spieth said.

But you have quite a bit below your feet, too. And the ones on the flat lie are very important.

Those par-3 shots are very important here. You try to find the green in regulation, and sometimes 16 and 6 both you have almost two par-3s in one.

So you’re trying to take advantage when they have the right pins on those greens and take your medicine, give yourself, again, if you don’t like your number and you’re not going to feel good about hitting the spot, then you make sure you’re not missing in the wrong spots and you got less than five feet for par, and you just have to make a lot of those putts.

You have to make a lot of putts that are tougher from inside 10 than normal.

And those are the ones that keep the momentum going because there are plenty of birdie chances.

Spieth clearly feels like anyone who can master every single lie, whether that be downhill, uphill, right to left or left to right slopes, will have a great chance of winning at Augusta National this week.

Bryson DeChambeau will surely be desperate to prove Brandel Chamblee wrong by winning The Masters.
