Jordan Spieth continues to thrill and frustrate his fans in equal measure.
Spieth posted an opening-round 68 at the Rocket Classic on Thursday, and he needs a really strong finish this week to force his way inside the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings.
The 33-year-old from Dallas has really struggled with his game over the past few years and he is without a win since April 2022.
Jordan Spieth has struggled to replicate the form that he showed during his first few years on tour when he won three major championships.

While he may never reach those heights again, he certainly should be contending for trophies more than he has been of late.
The three-time major champion will have entered the Rocket Classic with ambitions of rediscovering his winning touch.
However, with every week that passes, Spieth returning to the PGA Tour winners’ circle seems more and more unlikely.

Spieth withdrew from the 3M Open last week in order to recharge his batteries ahead of the busy schedule that lies in front of him.
And his ball-striking was in fine fettle during his opening round of 68, ranking 24th in strokes gained off the tee and 36th in strokes gained approach.
Spieth gained just over two strokes on the field from tee-to-green on Thursday at the Rocket Classic, and his swing had a fantastic flow and rhythm to it.
However, his putting let him down badly once again.
Spieth was ranked 95th in strokes gain putting on day one at the Detroit Golf Club after losing 0.742 strokes to the field on the greens.

That is nothing new for the 13-time PGA Tour winner.
He has desperately struggled with his putter for years now and hasn’t been ranked inside the top 50 in strokes gain putting since the 2020/21 season.
Surely now it’s time for a change.

Spieth’s struggles with his putter have reached a point where he is struggling to break par, regardless of how well he strikes the ball.
Now he has to react to his latest wakeup call at the Rocket Classic and make a switch to more of a face-balanced mallet-type putter.
The interesting thing is that Spieth may only need to use the putter for a couple of tournaments or so.
He needs to take advantage of the honeymoon period that so many golfers enjoy while trialling new putters.
The Texan just needs to remember what it’s like to see his ball drop in the hole and then go from there.
Regardless of what the numbers show him from testing mallet putters, a switch is now an absolute necessity.
What is the worst that could happen? He’s putting terribly as it is, so he has nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Jordan Spieth needs to switch putters urgently if he is to have any chance of returning to the PGA Tour winners’ circle.
