After two days of rumors, LIV Golf Mexico City was back at it. The first round of the event on Thursday was marred by more than two hours of technical difficulties, wiping out a chunk of the telecast. It eventually came back and by the end of the day, Victor Perez had the lead by three shots.
Jon Rahm will start Day 2 in second, three shots back. Rahm has one win and three second-place finishes so far in 2026 but after his first round in Mexico City, he was asked about the all the discussions of LIV facing financial problems.
"Until the people in charge told me whether or not the rumors were true, there was no point in dwelling on it or wasting time thinking about it," he said of the one question he was asked. "We were here, we knew we were going to play, so the idea was to prepare for a tournament. That's all. Since everything happened so suddenly and quickly, I wasn't too worried about it because we usually know something before the rumors even start. There's always someone in the league who knows something. It was so fast that I wasn't really worried about it."
Rahm is LIV Golf's all-time earner at more than $80 million. He made more than $53 million on the PGA Tour before switching leagues.
