Former NFL coach Jon Gruden hasn't generated any interest in roaming the sidelines as a head coach, but he has drawn some interest in joining one in particular as an assistant and passed.
During the summer, at Detroit Lions camp, Gruden would say, "Hopefully I'm not done, I’m about to make a comeback. I’m working hard to maybe get one more shot."
Gruden has indicated that he is only interested in a head coaching opportunity. Of course, when you've been away from the game for a bit, an assistant job is what may help get your foot back in the door of a franchise needing a new head coach, but it appears Gruden has set his sights on one outcome.
Gruden and the NFL have continued a brutal run in court and a relentless effort to keep the case out of arbitration.
Any hire for Jon Gruden would have its fair share of controversy and naysayers, but the Jets were willing to bring him in as an assistant to join Aaron Glenn's staff, and Gruden had no interest. Maybe that will change, maybe it won't, but the Jets have never shied away from a little drama.
