PHILADELPHIA -- It's hard to replace what a guy like Paul George brings to the table. Sure, he isn't the same ruthless scorer and takeover guy he once was during his younger days, but he is a key piece to the Philadelphia 76ers as somebody who can defend at a high level and can also knock down shots and make plays for others.

George is an important piece to Philadelphia's success and he will be extremely tough to replace. He averages 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists along with 1.5 steals. He's shooting 42.4% from the floor and 38.2% from deep as he has become an important piece to this group. The challenge for the Sixers is to now find a way to replace him.

After Saturday's 124-114 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, Joel Embiid reacted to losing George to his 25-game suspension.

"I talked to him," Embiid said. "It’s unfortunate for him and for us, but we’re just gonna hold down the fort until we get him back, but like I said, it’s unfortunate."

As mentioned above, it's hard to replace a guy like George. There are many out there who are doubting what he brings to the floor, but Embiid set the record straight.

"I know people have mixed feelings about what he brings to the table, but you can't replace it," Embiid stated. "He does everything for us defensively, probably our best defender, perimeter defender. Offensively, he can play so many roles. Knock down shots, post up, creation, playmaking, can't replace. It's only gonna be tough moving forward. Just gotta try."

The statement from George in the aftermath of the suspension was that he took a medication to help him through the hurdles he has been dealing with. His teammates are going to remain supportive of him and help him through this tough stretch until he's eligible to return on March 25.

"We stand with Paul," added Tyrese Maxey. "We appreciate him, and as a team, we're going to rally behind him and make sure that he's good and gets whatever he needs. As far as who is going to step up? I think Kelly (Oubre Jr.). I think Kelly played good tonight. VJ (Edgecombe) will step back into that role that he was kind of beginning of the season, being even more aggressive than he already is."

Speaking of Edgecombe, a lot of responsibility will now fall on the rookie in the aftermath of George's suspension, and he knows one doesn't necessarily replace what a 9-time All-Star brings on a nightly basis.

"PG is irreplaceable," Edgecombe said. "I mean, obviously, he’s a superstar. He’s really good at basketball. He's a great leader also. So, I mean, like, it wasn't the best news, but he's still a part of the team. He still will want us to go out there and play every night, play hard, and that's what we're gonna do."

The Sixers will have to try and stay afloat until George returns. It starts with a 5-game West Coast road trip on Monday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
