Joe Pyfer says Israel Adesanya is not getting the respect he deserves.
Pyfer (16-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) handed former middleweight champion Adesanya (24-6 MMA, 13-6 UFC) his fourth-straight loss when he finished him by Round 2 TKO at UFC Fight Night 271 this past Saturday.
Pyfer lost Round 1 before rallying to finish Adesanya by ground strikes. With the likes of Michael Bisping saying they'd rather see Adesanya retire, Pyfer wants more credit for his win.
"Listen, I'm very happy. I beat one of the greatest people of all time in my division," Pyfer said on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "That's great. That's awesome. But at the same time, you've got everybody ripping Izzy and saying, 'This dude lost to a no-name.' So it's like, I'm not even getting praises or respect for what I just did, and people are still attacking the guy.
"You guys don't understand that this dude was one of the best of all time. He's still competing at the highest level. The only guys he lost to before me were the top guys in the top five, so give the guy some credit. He's got some other endeavors than just fighting. It's really rubbing me the wrong way and it's just sad. I wish the fans would show more love than they do hate. It's easy to say what everybody's doing wrong. It's not easy to stand by the people that are doing wrong. Did he look washed to you? He didn't look washed to me. He was doing good. It was a competitive, fun fight. It was a good fight."
Despite his losing skid, Adesanya still plans to continue fighting, something Daniel Cormier supports.
