... Rattlers. :D From the East Valley Tribune, 10/28/2003:

Rattlers sign Mtn. View grad Germaine
From Staff Reports

>>The Arizona Rattlers have signed quarterback Joe Germaine (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) to a contract, the team announced Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Germaine, who played at Mountain View High School where he set a school record with 3,782 passing yards, spent time with the St. Louis Rams, earning a Super Bowl championship ring in 1999. He also was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2001 and Cincinnati Bengals in 2002.

"It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to play football in front of my family and friends," Germaine said. "I’m excited to get to stay home to play with a great franchise and a great team like the Arizona Rattlers."

Germaine played collegiately at Scottsdale Community College, throwing for 2,729 yards and 15 touchdowns in one season.

From there he moved on to Ohio State, amassing 6,370 passing yards, 56 touchdown passes, and a 59 percent completion rate. He is remembered for leading the Buckeyes to a victory over Arizona State in the 1997 Rose Bowl. He was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and All-Big Ten Conference in 1998, his only season in Columbus as the full-time starter.<<

I'd thought that Joe Germaine might be worth a look by the Cardinals, this last offseason. Apparently, the other football team in town thinks he can still play.

This is a good signing by the Rattlers. Does Bonner plan to return for another season?

I doubt he'll do well in the Arena League. He seems too slow; both in his release and his footwork.

MD:

Sorry about that. I shoulda known someone on the Rattlers board would be all over this.

I'm glad Joe Germaine's getting another shot, even if it isn't in the NFL. He may not have had the tools to succeed in the Rams/ Chiefs offense, or held on to a roster spot in Cincinnati after the addition of Carson Palmer to the QB mix, but I still think he can play somewhere. Maybe it'll be with the Rattlers.
