On Friday, the LPGA's JM Eagle LA Championship had a total purse of $3.75 million and a first-place prize of $562,000.

That all changed on Saturday. Walter Wang, JM Eagle's president and CEO, joined the Golf Channel telecast and made an unprecedented move.

"I'd like to make an announcent," he told Grant Boone during the third round coverage. "I'd like to increase the purse by a million dollars." And just like that, through 54 holes of the tournament in El Caballero Country Club in Los Angeles, the total prize money shot to $4.75 million with the winner now gettiing $712,500. That's a nearly 27 percent increase in first-place money.

This moves the JM Eagle LA way up the scale on the tour's paydays. Only the five LPGA majors and the CME Group Tour Championshiop have bigger total purses and first-place checks.

The JM Eagle is in its fourth season and second at El Caballero Country Club. JM Eagle is the world’s leading manufacturer of plastic pipes.
