There are a lot of interesting things for the New York Jets fanbase to pay attention to during training camp. Offense will be a key focus with Frank Reich taking over as offensive coordinator with some important new faces on the roster.

But, looking to the defensive side of the ball, after going interception-less in 2026, the cornerback job that's up for grabs will be a very interesting and important battle this summer.

Rich Cimini of ESPN revealed the favorite of this battle between Nahshon Wright, D'Angelo Ponds, and Azareye'h Thomas. While Ponds could be the pick with Aaron Glenn as his NFL comp, the former Chicago Bears CB has the edge on the competition.

Nahshon Wright is favorite to win Jets' CB2 job​

"Conerback No. 2: Nahshon Wright is the favorite, but he will be pushed by Azareye'h Thomas. Rookie D'Angelo Ponds could be in the mix, too, but he might slide inside to the slot," Cimini writes.

Ponds, the very fun second-rounder selected by Glenn and the Jets in the 2026 NFL Draft, who just helped Indiana win the National Championship, is not believed to be the favorite for the Jets' CB2 job.

However, he does have a pathway to being the team's slot cornerback, which would at least give him some reps in certain defensive formations.

Thomas has a chance to win this CB2 job as well, but Wright is the current favorite. He signed a one-year deal in free agency, and it wasn't a huge one either.

But that one-year, $5.5 million contract was one of the best of the offseason, as Wright has a ton of upside. While the 27-year-old struggled with the Dallas Cowboys, he thrived last year.

Last season for the Bears, Wright recorded five interceptions with 80 total tackles, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.

For a team that didn't have a single interception last year, bringing in someone who is coming off a five-interception season was a great move.

He's the current favorite to win the CB2 job over Ponds and Thomas for Glenn's defense. While he's yet to win this job, as things currently stand, he has the best shot of anyone.
