The New York Jets made a pair of roster moves at wide receiver as OTAs are coming to its close.
General manager Darren Mougey waived wide receiver Quentin Skinner with an injury designation, per New York Post. In a corresponding move, they signed rookie undrafted receiver Jalen Walthall.
Skinner signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent last year out of Kansas. The five-year college wideout produced eight catches on 11 targets for 114 yards and one touchdown during the preseason. Skinner was waived during final cuts, but re-signed to the practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster in December and had a 10-yard catch against the Buffalo Bills in Week 18.
Walthall now takes his spot on the offseason 90-man roster. He began his college career at Hawaii before transferring to Incarnate Word. The small-school standout competed at the East-West Shrine Bowl and received an invite to participate at the NFL Combine during the pre-draft process. Walthall performed rather averagely, running the 40 in 4.57 seconds.
The Jets are fairly deep at wide receiver. Garrett Wilson is the go-to weapon, Adonai Mitchell has looked promising at OTAs, and rookie first-round Omar Cooper Jr. is also in the fold. Walthall will have a difficult time making a positive impression in a crowded position room.
